You can quite easily restrict the the information sent out form your computer to website's while browsing, you can also limit the number of adverts and popup's. Depending on you skillful you are with computers you may wish to use Privoxy which can protect you identity online, it a also removes adverts and popup's. Privoxy is written in Java and will run on both Windows and Linux. You can run it on a single computer or protect a whole network with a single installation. Adblock is a plugin for Firefox (who can do without it) which will protect you from adverts and is easily setup. There are number of other very good reasons for usingFirefox.
