Poems and Limericks

Mr Giraffe

Mr Giraffe you make me laugh
You seem to be made all wrong
With your head so high way up in the sky
And your neck so very long
It seems to me that your dinner and tea
Have such a long way to go
And I am wondering, and I am wondering
Whether they know which way to go

The Waterbuck

A waterbuck sat on a loo
Freshly painted
And when she saw that
She nearly fainted
With nods of their heads
The others then said
My dear, never fear
Your bottom painted white
Is a wonderful sight

Two old tortoises

Two old tortoises going for a walk
"Good morning" says the one
"Shall we have a talk"
"Yes" said the other "I do enjoy a chat"
And they walked along together
With a natter, natter, nat

Counting

Here I come number one
Like an ostrich I can run
Here I come number two
Bouncing like a kangeroo
Here I come number three
Squich, squich, squich like a chimpanzee
Here I come number four
Like a lion I can roar
Here I come number five
Teach the elephants how to jive
Here I come number six
Monkeys doing lots of tricks
Here I come number seven
Eagles soar up to heaven
Here I come number eight
Flamingoes stand so tall and straight
Here I come number nine
Penguins marching in a line
Here I come number ten
The animals shout "lets begin again"

Cats sleep anywhere

Cats sleep anywhere
Any table, any chair
Top of piano, window ledge
In the middle, on the edge
Open drawer, empty shoe
Anybody's lap will do
Fitted in a cardboard box
In the cupboard with your frocks
They don't care
Cats sleep anywhere!

My Puppy

It's funny my puppy knows just how I feel
When I am happy he is yappy
And squirms like an eel
When I am grumpy he is slumpy
And stays at my heel
Its funny my puppy knows such a great deal

Sammy the Seal

Sammy the seal
Was a slippery seal
And a slippery seal was he
He slithered and slid
To the sandy shore
And slipped back into the sea

A kitten

He's nothing much but fur
And two round eyes of blue,
He has a giant purr
And a midget mew.

He darts and pats the air,
He starts and cocks his ear,
When there is nothing there
For him to see and hear.

He runs around in rings
But why we cannot tell;
With sideway leaps he springs
At things invisible-

Then half-way through a leap
His startled eyeballs close,
And he drops off to sleep
With one paw on his nose.

The Little Brown Bunny

A little brown bunny
He lived in a hill
In a cosy warm hole
That was roomy until
He grew bigger and bouncier
Never was still
No no - he never was still.

"Now, look" said his mother
One cold sunny day
"I know you'll keep warm
If you go out to play
You just fidget and fidget
And get in my way
Yes yes - you get in my way".

The little brown bunny
came out of his hole
And he skipped
And he hopped
And he went for a stroll
'til he came to a molehill
And there was a mole
Yes yes - a sleepy old mole.

The little brown bunny
Hopped merrily round
While the sleepy old mole
He sat up on his mound
And clapped with his slippers
A tappety sound
Yes yes - a tappety sound

The little brown bunny
Said "why do you wink?"
The sleepy old mole said
"My eyes seem to blink
but moles sleep so long
that they really can't think
No no - they really can't think"

The little brown bunny
Went back to his hole
And he said"I will often
come out for a stroll
And I'll dance
if you'll clap for me
kind Mr Mole?"
"Yes yes"-
said the sleepy old mole
"I'll clap and I,ll clap"
Said the sleepy old mole.
